Project Description
IN THIS CASE:
Landmark Pavers added a appealing stacked stone column entrance with paver steps that gently descended from the street to the front door. Completed with a xeriscape, low-maintenance softscape plan, this renovation brought new curb appeal to an older home with classic lines and a single story architecture.
Construction Challenge
THE CHALLENGE:
The Clairemont area of San Diego offers many homeowners commanding views of Mission Bay and downtown San Diego. However, uniquely characteristic to this hilltop neighborhood are properties with front yards that slope deeply toward the front of the home (rather than away from the property and toward the street). As was the case with this client, these inward sloping yards often leave the home's structure well below street level. This elevation difference presents serious drainage and flooding concerns. Some neighbors even use pumps to syphon water away from their front walkways and front door during rainy seasons.
Design Resolution
PROBLEM SOLVED:
A carefully executed hardscape design which incorporated a precise mix of channel drains at the driveway and an intricately engineered drainage system solved the homeowner's water evacuation issues without sacrificing aesthetics or beauty. A combination of Belgard Mega Arbel pavers and Urbana stone were used in alternating colors in the driveway to create a sweeping walkway embedded within the space. Before the transformation, the home lacked a sense of entry and was short on appeal. After the construction, the home's facelift gave the property a much needed exterior update that also gave its market value a boost as well and a warm welcome home.
